Chaise Lounge cushions laid on the boat floor
bottom and sides, a small ice chest for the cruise goodies and we would stay out
cruising the canals, slowly and quietly for two to three hours on a sunny
afternoon. Lots of time for chats without the drone of a gas outboard. A lot less
costly to run too.
So, if you would like to do some very safe boating at an extremily
low cost, consider a small 12'-14' Carolina Skiff or 13' older Boston Whaler as your
Mount Vernon/Coral Shores canal cruiser. You can't get into much trouble with boats
like this and are a great introduction to boating in Florida...
The Mount Vernon/Coral Shores channel was dredged several years ago down to 5 feet
although the depth next to the docks is slightly less than that.
The Mount Vernon/Coral Shores Canal leads out to the IntraCoastal Waterway and
passing under the Longboat Key Bridge, to the Gulf of Mexico. All very short
distances. All the channels are clearly marked and are mostly all over five
feet in depth.
The dock behind 4519 may be available to the 4519 Buyer. It's "Dock #30", right
behind 4519 Mount Vernon Drive. Just join the
Mount Vernon Boat Club for $20.00 annually. A real cost savings from monthly
marina or dry storage space fees...

Don't have a boat?
There is no need to buy a large and expensive
"yacht" to keep behind 4519 to have boating fun.
While 4519 is very close to the InterCoastal Waterway,
the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay, a small inexpensive boat is perfect for afternoon
and evening cruises
through the Mount Vernon/Coral Shores canal system.
Very safe, no wind or waves (except for the canal neighbors waving at you as
you slowly cruise by).
One of the most fun boats that we had was a 14' 1952 old aluminum rowboat with an
electric trolling motor the back. Battery powered, no gas and no noise...
ready to cruise the Mount Vernon/Coral Shores canals
on a sunny afternoon...
Electricity is already run underground to the Dock behind 4519 and it is
equipped with a power dock pedestal. Fresh water is also available at the dock.
Mount Vernon has a large fenced Boat Storage area for your boat when not in use,
and its trailer when then boat is in the water. Space availability in the
Boat Storage Yard is a separate application than the approval for dock space.
